Free Time?

I believe that last time I had free time was August 2005. I hadn't started law school yet and had just returned from a whirlwind trip of Europe. It was a month long period of leisurly trips to IKEA, long runs on the beach, and evening DVD marathons.

Ever since then, free time has been few and far between. There definitely hasn't been a consistent period of free time in my life since then. I remember last summer I would have a day here or there where I wasn't either working for the Judge or waitressing, and wouldn't actually have any plans, so I'd stay home all day and watch TV and read with a cup of coffee. Those days were fantastic. I had maybe 5 of them all summer. This past summer I may have had one day like that. Maybe. And this is not at all a complaint. My life has been crazy and busy for the past few years, but I've also been fantastically happy and excited about life.

However, my past lifestyle is going into shock over life in Copenhagen. I'm sure I've bragged to pretty much everyone that I only have two days of class a week. That leaves me 5 days a week to do...pretty much whatever I want. And the work level is not even close to that in Hastings, so maybe one of those five days I may dedicate some hours to reading.

It's the strangest feeling though! Last night I was in my room and was like, well, it's late, I should probably go to sleep because tomorrow I have to...Then the sudden realization that I had absolutely nothing to do today. So I rolled out of bed at 10 (I pretty much never stay in bed that late, NEVER!) went for a run, then decided that since it was raining I would sit at home, guilt free. So here I am. I did a little (pleasure) reading, cooked a little lunch, and booked a trip to Ireland.

And that is one of the most fantastic things about studying abroad. Not the free time, but the time to go on TRIPS! I currently have trips booked to Paris (We are going in less than a week, Mom!!!!), Munich for Oktoberfest, Berlin, and Ireland. Oh, and tomorrow I am going to go to Sweden for the day. It boggles my mind, truly. And meanwhile I am living in this fantastic city without the stress that constantly weighs on me in Law School. Life is pretty much fantastic.

Yaay for Julie!! I'm glad you're having such a fantastic time. And I'm SO jealous that you'll be in Munich for Oktoberfest. That's fantastic. Glad to hear you're living this up as much as possible! Can't wait to hear more when you're back. :]
