Malmo, Sweden

Last Saturday I took a day trip to Sweden. Now, when I was living in Providence, I was always amazed when we'd have a cross country practice that would involve driving to another state (indeed, on some runs we'd actually be able to run to Massachusetts and back). But it's a whole new level when you can get on the train and within half an hour be in another country. And now I've been to Sweden!

I went with a Hastings classmate and one of her friends. It was really fun to go explore a new place with people I knew after having spent so long traveling by myself. Malmo was a quick easy place to spend the afternoon. We spent the first half of the day walking about the main street where there was shopping (yay!), fountains and beautiful buildings.

It was fun to just meander around and do something as normal as go on a shopping trip. The shopping for me was essential. One thing I have discovered about the Danes is that they are quite trendy. A Dane could wear bright purple tights, neon blue shoes, a yellow tunic, and have just created a unique look. So I felt the need to go to the stores and attempt to vamp up my wardrobe just a little.

We walked along the canals and through the various gardens. There was a beautiful graveyard with spaced out separate plots. It was such a beautiful and serene place. It was a nice contrast to the weather that day. It was so windy! I seriously thought I was going to blow away. By the time I got home I was exhausted and I seriously think part of it was a constant battle in the wind. We also went to the Royal Gardens where there are museums and a windmill! Unfortunately everything was closed by the time we go there, but we were still able to walk around the grounds and of course be tourists and take copious amounts of pictures :-D

All in all it was a great break in the weekend (oh those four day weekends are tough) and a chance to get out with people and do something really different. Oh and I was able to be in and take crazy pictures since I wasn't traveling alone! For now, I have much to do. Tomorrow at this time I will be in Paris with Mom!!! How exciting is that? So prepare yourself for what could be the longest post ever when I get back. You may need a lot of coffee. Or else i will take pity on you and do installments. :-P
